Individual Therapy

At the Ottawa Centre for Relationship & Sex Therapy, individual therapy is available for adults and teens dealing with a range of personal and psychological concerns. We are relational therapists. The relationship between therapist and client is itself a meaningful part of the work, not only a backdrop to it.

What individual therapy can address

Our Ottawa therapists work with individuals on anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and significant life transitions. They also address questions related to identity, self-esteem, and personal values. Many clients seek individual therapy to better understand patterns in their relationships — with partners, family members, or colleagues. We work with early wounding or relational trauma that surfaces in adult relationships. This can apply even when the presenting concern is not framed in explicitly relational terms.

How we work

Therapists at this practice draw from trauma-informed approaches, narrative therapy, and other evidence-based models. The approach is shaped by the individual client’s situation and goals. We do not use a single fixed method across all cases.

Frequently asked questions

Ask whether the concern is persistent, is affecting your daily life or relationships, or has not improved despite your own efforts. Therapy can be useful at varying levels of distress. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

Duration varies considerably depending on the person and the concern. Some people complete a focused course of treatment in 8 to 16 sessions. Others prefer to continue longer. We revisit goals and progress regularly.

Yes. We offer individual therapy online for clients across Ottawa and Ontario. Virtual sessions are conducted via Owl Practice and are an effective alternative to in-person appointments for most clients. Owl Practice offers secure video and fully supports HIPPA, PIPEDA and PHIPA compliance.
